Privacy Policy
Smart Leaf – Last updated: February 22, 2026
In short: Smart Leaf does not sell your data. We only collect what's needed to make the app work. Your Nissan password is never stored on our servers.
What is Smart Leaf?
Smart Leaf is an unofficial app that lets you remotely monitor and control your Nissan electric vehicle (e.g. Nissan Leaf). It connects to your Nissan account to fetch vehicle data like battery status, location, and climate settings.
Smart Leaf is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Nissan Motor Corporation.
What data do we collect?
- Nissan account credentials – Your username and password are sent directly to Nissan's servers to authenticate. Your password is only used during login and is never stored on our servers.
- Firebase account – We automatically create a Firebase account linked to your Nissan username. This is used to sync your app settings (like Pro membership) across devices. The Firebase password is auto-generated and separate from your Nissan password.
- Vehicle data – Battery level, charging status, location, climate status, odometer, and trip history are fetched from Nissan's servers and displayed in the app. This data is not stored on our servers.
- Device location – If you enable location-based features (like Smart Near Control), your device location is used locally to detect proximity to your vehicle. Your location is not sent to our servers.
- Purchase information – If you upgrade to Pro, Google Play handles the payment. We only store your Pro membership status (active/inactive) in Firebase, not your payment details.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect personal information like your name, phone number, or home address.
- We do not track your driving habits or driving routes.
- We do not use advertising or ad tracking.
- We do not sell or share any data with third parties.
Where is data stored?
- On your device – Login session tokens and app settings are stored securely on your phone using encrypted storage.
- Firebase (Google Cloud) – Your Pro membership status and encrypted account recovery data are stored in Google Firebase, hosted in the EU.
- Nissan's servers – All vehicle data comes from and stays on Nissan's official servers. We act as a pass-through.
